Uniquely Personalized Gifts

It’s that time of year! My social media is flooded with newly engaged friends and couples welcoming their bundles of joy. Gift card, after gift card, after gift card can get quite boring. Why not surprise your loved ones with uniquely personalized gifts from M.C. Obsessions?

M.C. Obsessions is a custom embroidery and vinyl boutique, specializing in birthday shirts and accessories for little girls and boys. Recently, I had the opportunity to talk with Marcia Cutts, founder of M.C. Obsessions.

What was the inspiration behind the name of your business?

This may be surprising, but naming my business was very hard. I had so many ideas and inspirations, but didn’t really like anything I came up with. One day my husband said, “the only reason it’s so hard, is because you are so obsessed with everything!” This wasn’t a compliment. Lol. I can be quite rambunctious when it comes to crafts and from there M.C. (Marcia Cutts) Obsessions was born. The name also gives me a chance to expand my business without having to change my brand in the future.

How did you learn to sew/craft?

I am completely self-taught. Sewing and embroidery are two different things. Embroidery came quite easy. I watched a few YouTube videos and experimented a lot with trial and error until I finally perfected it. Sewing, I am also self-taught, but still learning. There are so many different types of stitches, based on what fabric you use. Most other crafts, such as building, cooking, baking etc., come quite naturally to me.

What is your vision for the next 5 years? Are there any new things your customers can look out for?

Funny, this question keeps coming up. I initially started the business as a way to stay home with my children and still make money. However as the business grows, I can truly see this as a career. My passion is to teach and design, so maybe something along those lines in the next 5 years.

New things…right now I’m learning to balance 3 kids, life and a business that is continually growing. (Don’t believe anyone that says going from 2 kids to 3 is easy, it’s not.) Once I get a good balance, I have a few ideas that I know my fans will love.

What is the one thing you cannot live without in your craft room?

I have a slight tendency to hoard, so I would say everything! Truly it is painful to throw anything away. This is a constant irritation to my husband, so I make sure stuff stays in my craft room/office. But if I had to choose one thing I cannot live without,  I would say my Silhouette Cameo, it is the most versatile machine in my craft room.

How can fans follow you and purchase your items?

April Highlights Autism Awareness

As April is quickly coming to an end, it would be remiss of me to not highlight Autism. April is National Autism Awareness Month. Autism touches the lives of so many families, with statistics stating 1 in 68 are affected. Autism Spectrum Disorder is a group of developmental disabilities. These developmental disabilities may cause serious behavioral, communication and social challenges.

While I have seen how Autism has affected families first hand, I will not pretend to be a subject matter expert. This month I am committing to learn a little more about Autism Spectrum Disorder.

I would love for you to join me and learn more about ASD.

Mean Green 101

A few weeks ago I was contacted by a marketing communications firm asking if I would be interested in joining a Brand Ambassador Program. I’m not going to lie, I was thrilled! Quickly, I read through the program requirements and selected which brand I wanted to represent. Out of the choices, I chose the Mean Green brand. I was very familiar with the them and most importantly my husband and I both USE their products. Kind of a no brainer, right!

My package arrived this evening and thankfully was spared by our big, bad Doberman Tito (interject sarcasm). Mean Green has an array of multi-purpose cleaners and degreasers. They are perfect for your bathroom, kitchen, multi-surface and outdoor areas. My husband even used it to clean up our mail box when we purchased our home.

I can’t wait to clean and share these great products with you. Until then, happy cleaning!

Why I Love Being a Mom of Boys

I am a Mom of two boys. Two wild, crazy, Evil Knievel boys. Over the years, I can not tell you how many people have asked me if we are going to try for a  “girl.” Besides the fact that I cannot have anymore children, our family is complete. I am content with my “boys” and truly love every moment where they nearly cause me to have a heart attack, which is often!

Here are 10 reasons Why I Love Being a Mom of Boys

  1. They use my err…”feminine products” as swords.
  2. They stare at my feet and toe separators in sheer terror post-pedicure.
  3. In the rare event that I wear lipstick, and I do mean rare, they ask who colored on my lips.
  4. When I remove my box braids, they tell me that I look like a lion.
  5. They build me castles with their blocks, because I am the Queen Bee around these parts.
  6. They pout when I make them wear collared shirts, because somehow collared shirts equate to handsome and who wants that? Gross!
  7. When I straighten my hair, they ask what is that smell. Just burning hair baby, burning hair!
  8. When I don’t straighten my hair, they yell that there are bugs on the floor. Nope, those are just hair balls!
  9. When they want something, they kiss up to me and say I’m pretty.
  10.  When they ask me to tickle them or hold them I happily oblige, because they sure can’t sit still for a hot minute.

The list could seriously go on and on, but these two little Tasmanian devils have stolen this “girls” heart forever.

Do you have a boy(s)? What are some things you love about being a boy mom?

April Showers Bring Fashionable Rain Gear

A few Valentine’s ago my husband picked up a cute, pink and purple plaid North Face rain jacket for me. At first I could not imagine why he would buy me a rain jacket. But let me tell you, I wear that rain jacket more often than not and it is great for transporting the T’s to and from daycare in the pouring rain! Which seems to a frequent occurrence  these past couple of weeks.

While I’m not a fan of rain or tornado season, there is no reason you should not have some cute rain gear.

More Cheese Please

It started with one too many cheese sticks. My little one loves cheese! And I love to hear his little voice, “Mama, more cheese. Mama, more cheese.” Well what was intended to be an after school snack, turned to crap. Or should I say, lack there of! My little man became constipated! I know…TMI! After a quick modification to his diet (no more cheese sticks), his bowel movements were back to normal within a day or two.

What I Want My Extrovert Husband to Know About His Introvert Wife

Yesterday was Friday. Typically I am at ease and ready to get the weekend started. However, for some odd reason I was exceptionally tired and had a headache. I had some errands I needed to run, but really I just wanted to crawl in the bed at 7:00 p.m. Knowing my husband was going to be out of town Saturday, I popped an Advil and went about my errands.

I returned home about two hours later. My husband kept asking me what was wrong with me. Nothing was wrong with me, unless you count that fact that I felt refreshed and was headache-free! And that is what introversion is – getting my energy from within.

I’m constantly reminding my husband that as an introvert I need the following:

Support – Proactively recognize when I am tired and getting my panties in a bunch. Stress is a daily occurrence. Stepping in and helping to reduce a stressful situation is invaluable.

Mom-ME Time – Allow me to spend time alone in silence. The minute I get up I am “on.” From pleasantly greeting the daycare employees, interacting with my colleagues, to working in a sales support role. When I get home, I’m talked out! Again, I regain my energy from within. Fifteen to thirty minutes of ME time is golden. I can recharge and be “on” again.

Don’t Call Me – I know, this sounds so rude. Unless it is a dire emergency or some juicy gossip, just text me.

Friendship – My circle is small, very small. Pressure to make friends or be “paired” up with a couple makes my skin crawl. I prefer to make friends on my own terms.

Decisions – I’m a Libra and an introvert. Being rushed to make quick decisions or act spontaneously sends me into a frenzy. I can literally feel my blood pressure rising. Either make the decision and act, or be prepared for me to think, think and think some more.

And last, this one is for my tempter tantrum throwing boys. Never embarrass me in public! Again, never embarrass me in public! Better said than done, right? Ha-ha. But seriously, introverts never like to be embarrassed in public.

I’m curious, do you identify as an introvert or extrovert?

How does your significant other identify?
