Yesterday I attended my first Barre365 class! We have all heard the hype around these ballet inspired classes. Long lean legs, a shapely derriere, and flat abs. Besides, have you ever seen a ballerina’s body? Flawless!
I consider myself to be in decent shape. I use the word decent loosely. Generally I aim to work out four times a week for 30 to 60 minutes. However, something told me that this class would be a little different, a little more challenging. And challenging it was!
I immediately burst into a sweat within minutes of the warm up. Our first round of exercises targeted the upper body. Using 3 lbs. weights, we completed bicep curls and triceps kick backs. My arms were jello!
Next we moved over to the barre. That series included, what felt like thousands of squats, plie squats, lunges, inner thigh squeezes and calf raises. I felt some discomfort, due to the fact that I have an early onset of arthritis due to my days on the hardwood. With that being said, I also felt comfortable having the barre there to help assist with my balance. When we completed this series, I just knew I was going to get a charlie horse! (I didn’t.)
Remaining at the barre , we went through a few numbers of kick backs, hip abductions, and what I like to call half hydrants. All targeting the glutes.
Last we moved to the mat. By this point I was tired and watching the clock. Bridges, abs, abs, and more abs. I think the Weekend’s I Can’t Feel My Face was playing at one point. And trust, I couldn’t feel anything!
All in all, I thought this was a great full body workout. I liked that it was different and not your ordinary run of the mill exercise class. And did I mention you’re barefoot? I will definitely be adding this class into my repertoire. Even after feeling like a wet noodle!
Have any of you tried the ballet inspired exercise classes? I’d love to hear about your experience.
