Focus on Childhood Obesity: Healthy Snacks

Diet is as important as exercise. We’ve all heard it. I’ll admit, it is a struggle as a young family who is always on the move to always eat healthy. Trust me, we are frequents in the Chic-Fil-A drive through. But everything in moderation, right?

When I’m not cruising through Chic-Fil-A after our evening sports activities, I try to squeeze in some healthy snacks. Below are our favorites.

Apple Slices
Apple Slices – Both of my guys like apples. We prefer the apple slices, simply because they’re easier to eat and it keeps Trace from eating the entire apple – seeds included!
Whole Grain Cheerios – Aside from being easy to pack and clean up, Cheerios contain dietary fiber, vitamins and minerals all of which provide many health benefits
Strawberry Apple Smoothie – Tallen has taken a liking to “slushes.” I mix 1 cup of organic fresh or frozen strawberries, 1 cup of organic 100% apple juice and 1 cup of ice and voila. He loves it.
Low-Fat Yogurt – Our house is obsessed with yogurt! The T’s could eat their weight in it. There are so many nutrients in yogurt. I let them eat until their heart’s content.
Whole Wheat Waffle – Last but certainly not least, waffles. Like yogurt, the T’s could eat their weight in waffles. While, I don’t buy sugar-free syrup, I do opt for the healthier whole wheat version.
